Architecture of Interment
Second paper for my liberal studies seminar. ehh…

First we saw the lights—speckling the open landscape like will-o’-the-wisps come to lead us to a ghastly doom. The night air was thick and moist, yet still, with storm clouds carrying a fresh batch of spring rain approaching from the distance (“Bring an umbrella”, I told Joe before the excursion. No one did). The living neighbors of Forest Hill Cemetery had all turned in for the night—no sight or sound of their existence but light from a nearby window or the grunt of a passing car. A deep rumble of thunder so dense it rattled our guts was ever present—not so much a sound as a feeling— and above us the sky was alight with a faint orange glow from the city lights, appearing as if reflecting a distant inferno, and interrupted by the occasional flash of white lightning. We counted the seconds before the cracks.
The perimeter of the yard was not surrounded by a fence, as is typical in our culture, but a line of short, white posts. We entered through the trees, uncertain of our passing into this home of the dead until coming to a vast clearing of trimmed grass— space yet to be filled with bodies and headstones, but with an emptiness more fitting of death. Our initial chatter died down to a whisper as we stepped across it, and a sudden seriousness overtook:
“We’re here.”
“What are those lights?”
“Shit, this is spooky.”
A friend we were planning to meet sent a text:
“Follow the lights…”

Probably my favorite album artwork I’ve seen in a while. But on that note my laptop’s screen has been starting to look like that sometimes when I turn it on and it’s freaking me out mannn! These songs were recorded whilst wandering across the world over the last 12 months in New York City - Melbourne - Tepoztlan - Mexico City - Berlin - Amsterdam - London - Bristol - Antwerp - Rome - Palermo - Granada - Asuncion - Reykjanesbaer - Rio De Janeiro - Buenos Aires - Iguanzu.
I was wondering why some Young Magic songs sounded and felt like I was engulfed in a crowd of people speaking an exotic language I couldn’t understand… I just got the Melt tape in the mail and now it all makes sense.Source: lionsandvultures
